Privacy

The short version

You can use all of OwnerRight without an account. The assessment runs in your browser and your answers are stored there, on your own device. We do not receive them unless you choose to save your stack, which is not yet a feature you can use.

What your assessment answers are

They are details about your business: what you do, roughly how many people work for you, whether they are employees or contractors, what stage you are at, which areas you want help with, and what you already use. That is personal data about your business, and it is treated as such.

Today they are written to your browser's local storage and read back by the recommendation engine, which also runs in your browser. Clearing your browser data deletes them. We hold no copy.

What we measure

Aggregate product analytics: which steps people complete, which areas get selected, whether recommendations get used. These carry no session identifier and no answer content. The code that records them strips any field that could contain either, and the database that will receive them rejects a record containing one, so the guarantee does not depend on the browser having behaved.

Events are grouped by a per-day key rather than by a session, which means we can count how many people finished an assessment and cannot join that back to the answers that produced it.

Links out to providers

When you follow a link to a provider you are on their site under their privacy policy. Where a link is a tracked partner link, the network will know that the click came from us. We do not pass your assessment answers to anyone. The commission disclosure explains the commercial arrangement in full.

The OwnerRight Brief

If you subscribe to the newsletter we hold your email address, the business type and topics if you chose to give them, and a record of your consent: the words you agreed to, the page you agreed on, when you did, and when you confirmed from the email we sent. Nothing from the assessment is ever added to it.

We use it only to send the Brief. We do not sell it, share it, or add it to anyone else's list. We record which links in an issue are followed, so we know what was useful; we do not track whether you opened an issue. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing stops all mail at once. You can ask us to delete your record entirely.

Signups are not open yet. Before they open, this section will name the email service that sends the Brief on our behalf and give the address for deletion requests.

Not yet built

Accounts, saving a stack to an account, and any server-side storage of assessments do not exist yet. The database schema for them is written and includes a policy that deletes an abandoned anonymous assessment after 180 days, but nothing has been deployed and no data has been stored anywhere but your own browser.

When that changes, this page changes with it, before the feature ships rather than after.
